George Clooney, Amal Clooney and Twins Acquire French Citizenship to Raise Family Away from Hollywood Spotlight

Oscar winning actor, Amal Clooney, and their twins embrace French life for privacy, family routines, and childhood simplicity.

India, Dec 30 : Hollywood icon George Clooney, his human rights lawyer wife Amal, and their eight year old twins, Alexander and Ella, have officially become French citizens, marking a new chapter far from the glare of Hollywood. Legal documents published by a French newspaper confirm the entire family was granted naturalisation, making France their official home.

Life on the French Countryside
Now 64, Clooney has spoken candidly about his family life in rural France, where the family resides on a farm. Once a childhood aversion, farm life has become a cherished environment for raising his children. Clooney told Esquire, “They’re not stuck on their iPads. They sit at the table with adults, eat dinner together, and even carry their own plates,” highlighting the value of simple, communal routines.

Privacy Over Fame
The decision to naturalise in France stems from Clooney’s desire to shield his children from the pressures of Hollywood. Concerned about constant media attention and comparisons with other celebrity kids, Clooney prioritises a quieter, more grounded upbringing. “I don’t want them worrying about paparazzi,” he said, emphasising the freedom and anonymity life in France affords.

Global Homes, But France Feels Right
Despite owning properties in the US, England, and Italy, France has become the Clooneys’ preferred base. Reflecting on his journey, George noted in a 2025 New York Times interview that he now drives a tractor and enjoys the rural lifestyle he once tried to escape, demonstrating how parenthood reshaped his priorities.

With French citizenship, the Clooneys now officially root their family life in a country that offers privacy, peace, and a slower pace—away from Hollywood’s relentless spotlight.
