FIFA President Gianni Infantino described the response as “extraordinary,” highlighting it as a testament to football’s universal appeal. “The FIFA World Cup 2026 is set to be the greatest and most inclusive show on the planet, with more than 150 million tickets requested in just the first 15 days, making this edition 30 times oversubscribed,” he said. Infantino added that the overwhelming demand reflects fans’ deep global connection to the sport.
The 2026 World Cup, kicking off on June 11, will be hosted across 16 cities in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, culminating in the final at MetLife Stadium, New York–New Jersey, on July 19.
This edition will also debut an expanded 48-team format. Teams will compete in 12 groups of four, with the top two from each group and the eight best third-placed teams advancing to the round of 32.
The group-stage matchups were unveiled at a glittering Final Draw ceremony at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, further fueling anticipation for the tournament that promises to be a historic celebration of football and global unity.
