Perth, Jan 2: The fourth edition of the United Cup 2026 kicks off in Perth on Friday with Spain taking on Argentina and Greece facing Japan in exciting mixed team tennis action.
Spain’s campaign opens with Jaume Munar playing Sebastian Baez in the men’s singles, while Jessica Bouzas Maneiro faces Solana Sierra in the women’s singles. A mixed doubles clash will decide the match if the singles matches end in a tie.
In the other high-profile fixture, Greece will field top players Maria Sakkari and Stefanos Tsitsipas against Japan’s Naomi Osaka and Shintaro Mochizuki. Matches will be held at RAC Arena, part of the international hard court event hosted across Perth and Sydney by Tennis Australia.
The United Cup features 18 national teams, each with up to three men’s and three women’s players, competing in a round-robin group stage followed by knockout rounds. Groups A, C, and E play in Perth, while Groups B, D, and F compete in Sydney. The winners of each group and the best runner up from each city will advance to the quarterfinals.
Perth will host its quarterfinals on January 7, with winners traveling to Sydney for semifinals and the final. Singles matches are best-of-three tiebreak sets, while mixed doubles feature two tiebreak sets with a 10-point match tiebreak if required.
