“SP Leader Mehrotra Urges Youth to Take to Streets, Echoes Ajay Chautala’s Call”

Mehrotra cites rising unemployment, inflation, and poverty, urging Indian youth to take to the streets similar to mass movements in Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh.

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Ravidas Mehrotra on Saturday echoed the remarks of Jannayak Janta Party founder member Ajay Singh Chautala, suggesting that India is experiencing conditions similar to those that triggered mass uprisings in neighbouring countries.

Speaking to ANI, Mehrotra highlighted growing public anger over unemployment, inflation, and poverty, while accusing those in power of remaining indifferent to citizens’ suffering.

“In India’s neighbouring countries Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh people have overthrown governments through protests. A similar situation exists in India, with hunger, poverty, and unemployment affecting citizens, while leaders ignore these issues. Therefore, the youth should take to the streets, as in Nepal, to bring about a mass movement and hold those in power accountable,” Mehrotra said.

Earlier, former MP Ajay Chautala sparked controversy with similar remarks, urging youth to challenge the ruling government through street protests. He noted that youth in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Nepal have successfully forced political change and emphasized the need for similar activism in India.

Meanwhile, protests continue in Bangladesh, where the cultural movement Inqilab Moncho held a blockade in Dhaka’s Shahbagh region on Friday. The demonstration demanded justice in the killing of Sharif Osman Hadi, a key leader of the July 2024 uprising. Hadi was shot in Dhaka’s Bijoynagar area on December 12 and died on December 18. Inqilab Moncho leaders reminded the interim government of the 30-day deadline for initiating and expediting the trial, with just 22 days remaining.
