Kolkata Police Detain Suspect Following Bomb Threat to Governor
Security beefed up at Raj Bhavan after threatening email investigation underway to determine motive and source.
Kolkata, Jan 10 : Police have detained a 68 year old man, identified as Subrata Dutta, in connection with an email threatening the safety of Governor C.V. Ananda Bose. The threat email, received by Raj Bhavan officials on Thursday night, warned that the Governor would be “blown up.”
Following the receipt of the message, security at Raj Bhavan was immediately strengthened, and Kolkata Police, in coordination with the CRPF, initiated a thorough investigation. Officers from Hare Street police station detained Dutta on Friday as part of ongoing inquiries.
A senior Kolkata Police official said, “In regard to the bomb threat to the Governor, a case has been registered against Subrata Dutta Roy (68). He has been detained and the investigation is ongoing.” Police have yet to confirm if Dutta himself sent the email.
Governor Bose, who receives ‘Z-plus’ security, has faced similar threats in the past. Nevertheless, the latest message prompted an emergency security review and additional precautions at Raj Bhavan to ensure his safety.
The investigation continues to determine the origin and motive behind the email, with authorities maintaining heightened vigilance to prevent any potential security breach.
