Hindu Man Stabbed to Death in Bangladesh’s Feni District, Ninth Such Killing in 24 Days
The 27 year old autorickshaw driver was found with multiple stab wounds in a field; police suspect murder during a vehicle theft attempt.
India, Jan 13 : A Hindu man has been brutally killed in Bangladesh’s Feni district, adding to mounting concerns over violence against minority communities in the country.
The victim, identified as 27 year old Samir Das, worked as an autorickshaw driver. His body was discovered on Monday in a crop field in Jagatpur village under the Daganbhuiyan upazila of Feni district.
What happened to Samir Das
According to local reports, Samir left his home on Sunday evening in his autorickshaw but did not return. When repeated attempts to contact him failed, his family launched a search, reaching out to people he usually interacted with.
Several hours later, villagers found his lifeless body lying in a field and immediately alerted the police.
A Bengali daily, Daily Manobkantha, citing police officials and family members, reported that Samir had sustained multiple stab wounds. Preliminary findings indicate that he may have been taken to an isolated location and killed during an alleged attempt to steal his autorickshaw, which remains missing.
Confirming the incident, Daganbhuiyan Police Station Officer in Charge Muhammad Faizul Azim Noman said the body had been recovered and sent to Feni General Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.
“The autorickshaw has not yet been traced. A special police operation has been launched to identify and arrest those involved in the murder and recover the vehicle,” he said.
Why the case has wider significance
The killing of Samir Das marks the ninth violent incident involving Hindu community members in Bangladesh in the past 24 days, highlighting a troubling pattern of attacks on minorities.
Earlier this month, on January 9, India expressed concern over the repeated targeting of minority communities in Bangladesh. New Delhi said it was closely monitoring developments and urged that those responsible for communal violence be brought to justice.
