PM Modi at Commonwealth Conference: “We Have Democratised Everything,” Showcases India’s Democratic Strength
At the 28th Commonwealth Speakers and Presiding Officers Conference, PM Modi showcases India’s inclusive democracy and development achievements while emphasizing people centric governance.
New Delhi, Jan 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 28th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) 2026 at the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan today. Speaking on the theme “Effective Delivery of Parliamentary Democracy,” Modi underscored India’s journey of democracy and its ability to deliver development outcomes.
“This subject is highly relevant in today’s global context. At the time of India’s independence, many doubted whether democracy could survive in such a diverse country. India proved them wrong. Today, we have translated the aspirations of the people into actionable reality. To ensure no obstacles come in their way, we have democratised everything from processes to technology. This democratic spirit runs in our veins, lives in our minds, and is ingrained in our values,” the Prime Minister said.
PM Modi highlighted the historical significance of the Central Hall, which hosted the Constituent Assembly and served as India’s Parliament for 75 years. He noted that hosting 61 Speakers and Presiding Officers from 42 Commonwealth countries at this venue reinforces India’s democratic legacy. Key participants included delegations from Canada, the UK, Australia, Namibia, Trinidad and Tobago, Tonga, Cameroon, Malaysia, and representatives from the Australian High Commission.
Showcasing India’s achievements, Modi said, “India is the world’s fastest growing major economy. Our UPI system is the world’s largest digital payment network. India is the largest producer of vaccines, the second-largest in steel, and has the world’s third largest start up ecosystem. Our rail and metro networks rank among the largest globally. In recent years, 250 million people have been lifted out of poverty. This is proof that democracy delivers results in India, because people are at the heart of our governance.”
The Prime Minister also emphasized India’s advocacy for the Global South, noting that during its G20 presidency, India placed the issues of developing nations at the centre of the global agenda. He highlighted efforts to develop open-source technology platforms to help partner nations replicate India’s governance and public service delivery models.
