Redeveloped Amira Kadal Bridge Unveiled, Blending Srinagar’s Heritage With Modern Design: LG Sinha

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha says the Smart City project aims to revive Srinagar’s historic core while offering modern civic amenities for pedestrians.

Srinagar, Jan 20: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday inaugurated the redeveloped Amira Kadal Bridge in Srinagar, describing it as a symbol of the city’s seamless blend of heritage and modern infrastructure under the Srinagar Smart City Project.

Speaking after the inauguration, the Lieutenant Governor said the historic bridge one of the oldest in the city has been completely reconstructed and upgraded with modern facilities to enhance pedestrian convenience and urban aesthetics.

“The redevelopment of Amira Kadal Bridge under the Smart City initiative reflects our commitment to preserving Srinagar’s rich heritage while integrating contemporary civic infrastructure,” Sinha said.

He added that such projects aim to create vibrant public spaces and restore the traditional connection between Srinagar’s historic quarters and its modern commercial hubs. “These initiatives will help revive the old links between Srinagar and Shehr-e-Khaas while improving the quality of urban life,” he said.

Officials said the redeveloped bridge features smart lighting, seating areas and improved pedestrian pathways, transforming it into a key cultural and pedestrian landmark. The bridge now serves as an important link between Lal Chowk and adjoining markets along the Jhelum riverfront.
