Congress leader recalls historic signing, artistic details, and group photograph marking India’s constitutional milestone.

New Delhi, Jan 24: Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Saturday commemorated the 76th anniversary of the Constituent Assembly members signing the Constitution of India, describing it as a landmark document for socio economic transformation.

In a post on X, Ramesh highlighted that 264 members signed three copies of the Constitution two handwritten in English and Hindi, featuring 22 illustrations by Shantiniketan artists led by Nandalal Bose. The calligraphy was crafted by Prem Behari Narayan Raizada (English) and Vasant K. Vaidya (Hindi), while the national emblem on the first page, designed by Dinanath Bhargava, was inspired by real lions from the Kolkata Zoo.

Ramesh called the illustrated Constitution “a seminal art treatise,” noting its celebration of India’s multi-layered history and unity in diversity, as recognized by the Lalit Kala Akademi. He also remembered the iconic group photograph of the Constituent Assembly members on the day of signing, calling it “one for the ages.”
