Avalanche Strikes Sonamarg Tourist Resort in J&K, No Casualties Reported
Avalanche warning had been issued earlier as heavy snowfall continued across Kashmir Valley.
J&K, Jan 28 : An avalanche struck the Sonamarg tourist resort in Jammu and Kashmir late Tuesday night, officials confirmed, adding that no casualties were reported. The incident occurred around 10:12 pm in the Ganderbal district of central Kashmir.
Video footage from surveillance cameras showed a large volume of snow sweeping through parts of the resort area and surrounding structures. Authorities said the situation was quickly assessed and found to be under control.
The incident followed a high danger avalanche warning issued for the region earlier in the week. Sonamarg and several other areas across the Kashmir Valley have experienced moderate to heavy snowfall over the past day, prompting heightened monitoring by local agencies.
