New Delhi, Jan 28 : Union Home Minister Amit Shah has left for Baramati following the tragic death of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and four others in a plane crash on Wednesday morning. The charter aircraft crashed while attempting to land at Baramati airport, and none of the five people on board survived, according to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

Shah expressed his grief over the incident, calling Pawar’s decades long dedication to the welfare of all sections of society in Maharashtra “inexpressible in words.” In a post on X, the Home Minister said, “Whenever we met, he would engage in long discussions on numerous issues related to the welfare of the people of Maharashtra. His passing is a personal loss not only for the NDA family but also for me.”

Earlier, Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and were briefed on the crash. Pawar’s family, including his wife Sunetra Pawar, son Parth Pawar, and cousin Supriya Sule, have departed for Mumbai. Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde is also expected to arrive in Baramati, as the state government has cancelled all official events in the wake of the accident.

Ajit Pawar had been travelling to Baramati to attend a campaign rally for the upcoming Zilla Parishad elections. Preliminary reports suggest the plane lost control during landing and crashed near the runway threshold.
