Economic Survey 2026-27 to Be Tabled Today, Paving Way for Union Budget
Survey reviews India’s economic performance and outlook, setting stage for next year’s budget proposals
Mumbai, Jan 29 : Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will table the Economic Survey of India in Parliament on Thursday, setting the tone for the Union Budget for 2026–27, scheduled for February 1.
Prepared by the Economic Division of the Ministry of Finance under the guidance of the Chief Economic Adviser, the Economic Survey provides a comprehensive assessment of India’s current economic situation. It reviews key trends, performance indicators, and challenges, while offering an outlook for the upcoming financial year along with potential policy directions.
Parliamentary agenda for the day
The day will begin with Question Hour, followed by the laying of official papers on the Table of the House by Union Council of Ministers. Sitharaman will present documents related to the Ministry of Finance, while Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, will table papers connected to the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India (AERA), including a review of its 2024–25 functioning.
Additionally, eight Bills passed by both Houses of Parliament during the Sixth Session of the 18th Lok Sabha, and subsequently receiving the President’s assent, will be formally laid before the House. The 13th Report of the Business Advisory Committee will also be presented by Kiren Rijiju and Kodikunnil Suresh.
Budget Session timeline
The Budget Session spans 30 sittings over 65 days, beginning January 28 and scheduled to conclude on April 2. Parliament will take a recess from February 13 to March 9, allowing Standing Committees to examine the Demands for Grants of various ministries and departments.
An all-party meeting chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was held ahead of the session, where leaders outlined key issues they plan to raise and assured cooperation for smooth parliamentary proceedings.
