PM Modi Hails India–EU Pact as ‘Free Trade for Ambitious India, Aspirational Youth’

Ahead of Union Budget 2026, PM Modi highlights opportunities for Indian manufacturers and young professionals from the landmark pact

New Delhi, Jan  29 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday lauded the India–European Union Free Trade Agreement, describing it as a significant step for an “ambitious India” and a source of opportunities for the country’s youth. Speaking ahead of the Union Budget, to be presented on February 1, Modi said the President’s address at the start of the Budget session reflected the trust, capability, and aspirations of 140 crore citizens, with a special focus on young Indians.

Highlighting India’s position on the global stage, Modi said the first quarter of the century has concluded and the nation is entering a decisive phase toward achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. He emphasized that the Budget would mark the first of the second quarter of the 21st century, setting the tone for long-term development and strategic growth.

The Prime Minister underscored the significance of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presenting the Union Budget for the ninth consecutive time, calling it a historic moment in India’s parliamentary tradition. He noted that India’s recent global achievements, particularly the EU trade pact, symbolize hope and opportunity for Indian manufacturers and young professionals, reinforcing the country’s trajectory toward self-reliance and economic ambition.

Modi said the India–EU agreement represents “Free Trade for an ambitious India, Free Trade for aspirational youth, and Free Trade for an Aatmanirbhar India,” expressing confidence that Indian businesses and the workforce would leverage the pact to enhance competitiveness and innovation.
