Iran’s Ali Larijani Holds Strategic Talks with Deputy NSA Pavan Kapoor in Mumbai

High-level security dialogue comes amid heightened US‑Iran tensions and stalled nuclear negotiations

Iran, Jan 29 : Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, met with India’s Deputy National Security Adviser, Pavan Kapoor, in Mumbai on Thursday, officials said, marking a high level strategic dialogue against the backdrop of rising tensions between Iran and the United States.

The Consulate General of Iran in Mumbai shared the update on X, confirming that Larijani and Kapoor discussed matters of mutual interest, though specific details of the agenda or outcomes were not immediately disclosed.

The interaction comes at a time of heightened US‑Iran friction over stalled nuclear negotiations and escalating rhetoric from Washington. Former US President Donald Trump recently reiterated a hardline stance toward Tehran, including warnings of possible military action if a deal is not reached.

Larijani, a veteran Iranian politician and former parliamentary speaker, was appointed head of the Supreme National Security Council in August 2025, a role that positions him at the centre of Iran’s national security and foreign policy strategy. Kapoor, a senior Indian diplomat and former ambassador to Russia, has served as Deputy NSA since July 2024.

The meeting underscores ongoing diplomatic engagement between India and Iran at a sensitive moment in regional geopolitics.
