J&K Govt Clarifies No Financial Support Scheme Planned for Young Advocates
Government says extending regular aid could create wider demands and strain finances
J&K, Feb 04 : The Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday clarified that it is not considering any proposal to provide monthly financial assistance to young advocates with over three years of legal practice.
The statement came from the Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs in response to Assembly Question No. 922 raised by MLA Shamim Firdous. Addressing the query, the minister in charge confirmed that no such initiative is currently under review and no timeline has been set.
Concerns over broader financial impact
The government noted that while advocates receive certain forms of support, introducing recurring financial aid for one professional group could lead to similar demands from other licensed professionals and technocrats who are not covered by such benefits.
Officials cautioned that expanding assistance in this manner could place significant pressure on the state’s finances.
The clarification effectively rules out, for now, the possibility of a stipend style scheme for early career lawyers in the Union Territory.
