Lok Sabha Adopts Motion of Thanks on President’s Address PM Skips Response

PM Narendra Modi abstains from customary reply as House witnesses sloganeering over opposition amendments

New Delhi, Feb 5: The Lok Sabha on Thursday passed the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address delivered on January 28, without the usual response from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, amid loud protests from opposition members.

Speaker Om Birla conducted a voice vote on the Motion after rejecting amendments proposed by the opposition. Despite repeated calls to maintain order, opposition lawmakers continued their demonstrations in the House, prompting the Speaker to adjourn the proceedings until 2:00 PM.

The passage of the Motion marks a formal acknowledgment of the President’s address, though the absence of the Prime Minister’s reply is an unusual departure from parliamentary tradition.
