Addresses event organised by Human Aid Society

Srinagar, 05 Feb: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah on Thursday said that Islam places social justice and human welfare at the core of its teachings, making the protection and care of orphans, widows, the needy and weaker sections of society a sacred moral and social obligation.

Dr. Farooq was speaking at a humanitarian event organised by the Human Aid Society NGO in Jammu. On the occasion, essential items were distributed among more than 100 orphans, in the presence of prominent civil society members and respected personalities from various sections of society.

Highlighting the universal message of Islam, Dr. Farooq said that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught that the progress, stability and moral strength of any society are determined by how it treats its most vulnerable members, especially orphans and the helpless. He said Islam strongly advocates empathy, kindness, and collective responsibility, and provides clear guidance for supporting those in need.

Dr. Farooq also spoke about the lifelong contributions of Baba-e-Qaum Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah towards the welfare of orphans, widows and the poor saying that Sheikh Sahib consistently stood with the voiceless during the most difficult times and worked relentlessly to safeguard their dignity and rights.

He said that throughout his life, Sheikh sahib worked tirelessly to ensure shelter, care and support for orphans and helpless people and established institutions dedicated to child welfare so that children could receive not only food and clothing, but also modern education, proper upbringing and training to live dignified and self-reliant lives.

Dr. Farooq said that societies and nations grow stronger when they protect and empower orphans and widows. He appealed to the well-off sections of society to take greater responsibility for the care, education, and upbringing of orphans so that their future remains safe, secure, and bright.

He also acknowledged the pioneering contributions of Madar-e-Maharban in serving orphans and widows through various institutions, describing her work as a powerful example of compassion, sacrifice, and humanity.
