Rohit Shetty Addresses ‘Golmaal 5’ Adaptation Buzz, Sets Record Straight

Rohit Shetty dismisses adaptation rumours, confirms original storyline as production gears up for a 2026 shoot.

Mumbai, Feb 10 : Director Rohit Shetty is preparing to take his blockbuster comedy franchise forward, with Golmaal 5 set to enter production in early 2026. As anticipation builds, the filmmaker has directly addressed speculation that the upcoming film draws inspiration from the 1980 classic Do Aur Do Paanch.

Director rejects adaptation speculation

Shetty has categorically denied reports linking the new instalment to the Amitabh Bachchan Shashi Kapoor entertainer, stating that the project is an original concept. The clarification comes after online chatter suggested the film would reinterpret the older comedy within the Golmaal universe.

Official statement calls reports misleading

The director’s team issued a formal note describing the circulating claims as “incorrect” and “misleading,” urging media platforms to verify information through authorised representatives before publishing. They also requested that inaccurate reports be corrected promptly, stressing the importance of responsible journalism.

Rumoured cast sparked early buzz

Industry reports had hinted at a star studded lineup featuring Ajay Devgn alongside Akshay Kumar, with franchise regulars such as Arshad Warsi, Kunal Kemmu, Sharman Joshi, and Tusshar Kapoor also expected to appear. The rumours gained momentum after suggestions that Shetty often borrows elements from vintage Hindi comedies  a claim he has now firmly refuted.

Security heightened around the project

Security has reportedly been strengthened following an incident involving gunshots near Shetty’s Juhu residence. Mumbai Police are coordinating with the filmmaker’s team to enhance protection at both his home and filming locations to ensure smooth production.

Shoot schedule and release plan

Filming is expected to commence at Mumbai’s Film City by late February or March, with a theatrical release targeted for early 2027. The film will reunite Devgn and Kumar once again, adding to their list of collaborations.

Currently, Shetty is completing a biopic on former Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria starring John Abraham. Meanwhile, Devgn is occupied with Drishyam 3, and Kumar is slated to join the comedy after wrapping up another project.
