Election Commission Conducts Pre-Poll Visit to Assam Ahead of Assembly Elections

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar leads three-day visit to review election preparedness ahead of March-April polls.

Guwahati, Feb 13 : A high level delegation from the Election Commission (EC), led by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, is scheduled to visit Assam from February 16 for a three-day assessment of the state’s readiness for the upcoming assembly elections.

The team, which includes Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, will meet political party leaders, as well as officials from Central and State election bodies, district election officers, and Superintendents of Police on February 17.

During the visit, the Chief Election Commissioner is expected to hold individual discussions with key Assam government officials, including the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, Director General of Police, Chief Electoral Officer, and the police nodal officer, to review security arrangements and administrative preparedness.

The visit will conclude on February 18 with a press conference where the EC delegation will brief the media on findings and recommendations.

The 126-member Assam assembly elections are projected to take place in March-April, and this visit is part of the Commission’s effort to ensure a free, fair, and well-coordinated polling process across the state.
