Humayun Kabir to Lead AIMIM, Small Parties in 182 Bengal Seats After Alliance Talks Fail
New Delhi, Feb 17 : Bharatpur MLA Humayun Kabir on Monday announced that his efforts to form an alliance with the CPM and ISF have ended, and he will now lead an independent front comprising AIMIM and six to seven smaller parties to contest 182 assembly seats in West Bengal.
Kabir told reporters that Left Front leaders, including CPM state secretary Md Salim and ISF chief Nawsad Siddique, demanded more seats than warranted by their vote share, making an alliance impractical. “The more seats I leave for them, it will only benefit TMC. They do not have it in them to fight effectively against Trinamool,” he said.
The AIMIM leader confirmed ongoing discussions with smaller parties such as SDPI and Azad Samaj Party, with 99% of talks completed. The next round of meetings is scheduled for February 21.
Kabir also revealed plans to field candidates against key leaders, including Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Bhowanipore and Suvendu Adhikari in Nandigram. TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh mocked the move, suggesting Kabir aim for a global position instead of state politics.
