Six Police Personnel Suspended After Gangster, Two Pakistan Nationals Escape from Jammu Juvenile Home

DGP Rushes to Spot After Daring Escape from Jammu Juvenile Home, Departmental Inquiry Ordered

Jammu, Feb 17: A serious security breach at a juvenile home in the R S Pura sector has led to the suspension of six police personnel after three inmates, including two Pakistan nationals and a local gangster, managed to escape from the facility on Monday evening. The incident has triggered a high-level inquiry and an extensive manhunt across the region.

According to officials, the escape took place around 5.15 pm when Karajeet Singh alias Gugga, a resident of Dablehar in R S Pura, along with Pakistan nationals Mohammad Suna-ullah and Ahsan Anwar, allegedly attacked on-duty police personnel before fleeing the premises. Two policemen sustained injuries during the scuffle.

In the immediate aftermath, six police personnel, including an Assistant Sub-Inspector, were placed under suspension on charges of dereliction of duty. Authorities stated that the suspensions are part of a departmental inquiry aimed at examining the sequence of events, assessing possible security lapses, and determining accountability for the breach.

Senior officers, including Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat and Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, Bhim Sen Tuti, visited the juvenile facility shortly after the incident to review the situation. A comprehensive investigation has been initiated to probe multiple angles, including the possibility of a conspiracy and how one of the inmates allegedly procured a country-made pistol within the premises.

Police have registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including attempt to murder, assault on public servants, escape from lawful custody, organised crime, and provisions of the Arms Act relating to unauthorised possession and use of firearms. Officials said the legal provisions reflect the gravity of the incident.

Special teams have been constituted to track down the absconding inmates. Raids have been conducted at dozens of locations in and around Jammu, with police intensifying surveillance in sensitive areas. Authorities are also examining the possibility that the fugitives may attempt to cross the international border.

The incident drew widespread public attention after a purported video surfaced on social media showing the alleged gangster firing inside the juvenile home before the escape. The video has raised questions about internal security arrangements and screening protocols at the facility.

Former Director General of Police S P Vaid also expressed concern, noting that the inmates were no longer juveniles and questioning how a crude firearm could have been smuggled into a secured institution. He voiced confidence that law enforcement agencies would apprehend the fugitives swiftly.

Karajeet Singh was earlier arrested in connection with the murder of rival gang leader Sumit Jandiyal alias Gataru in January last year and had been lodged in the juvenile home following legal proceedings. The presence of two foreign nationals among the escapees has added a sensitive dimension to the case.

Authorities have assured that the investigation will be thorough and transparent, and that strict action will be taken wherever lapses are established. Meanwhile, security at correctional and custodial facilities across the region is reportedly being reviewed to prevent similar incidents in the future.
