T20 World Cup: Bosch, Nortje Star as South Africa Limit UAE to 122/6
Proteas bowlers dominate as UAE falter after strong start
South Africa, Feb 18 : In a dominant bowling display, South Africa’s Corbin Bosch and Anrich Nortje dismantled the United Arab Emirates, restricting them to 122/6 in their final Group D match of the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday.
Under overcast conditions with floodlights on, Bosch exploited the damp surface to pick up 3-12, while Nortje added 2-28. Left arm spinner George Linde kept UAE’s momentum in check, taking 1-17 as the visitors struggled to recover after a brisk opening stand.
Alishan Sharafu top scored for UAE with 45 off 38 balls, including five fours and a six, but lacked support at the other end. Despite a few dropped chances, South Africa’s disciplined bowling ensured UAE never accelerated.
Kagiso Rabada found pace and bounce early, though Aryansh Sharma and Muhammad Waseem hit him for boundaries in the first overs. Linde then provided the breakthrough by trapping Waseem lbw for 22. Bosch struck twice in quick succession, dismissing Aryansh Sharma (13) and Sohaib Khan (6) to tighten the screws. Nortje ended Sharafu’s innings with a sharp catch at mid-wicket, curbing UAE’s scoring push. Bosch wrapped up the tail by dismissing Muhammad Arfan (11), leaving the Proteas with a modest target of 123 to chase and maintain an unbeaten Group D record, weather permitting.
Brief Scores: UAE 122/6 in 20 overs (Alishan Sharafu 45, Muhammad Waseem 22; Corbin Bosch 3-12, Anrich Nortje 2-28) vs South Africa.
