Congress leaders emphasise compassion, reflection and communal harmony as the holy month begins

New Delhi, Feb 19 : As the sacred month of Ramzan commenced, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and senior party leader Rahul Gandhi conveyed their greetings to citizens nationwide, underlining the spiritual and social values associated with the observance.

In a message shared on X, Kharge described the occasion as a period dedicated to prayer, introspection, mercy and renewal. He expressed hope that the month would strengthen the spirit of service and deepen commitments to compassion, unity and harmony.

Rahul Gandhi also shared his wishes, praying that the month brings peace, prosperity and good health to all.

Significance of Ramzan

Observed by Muslims around the world, Ramzan is marked by fasting from dawn to dusk, alongside heightened devotion, charity and self-discipline. The month commemorates the first revelation of the Quran to Prophet Muhammad and is regarded as a time for spiritual growth and collective solidarity.

Devotees participate in daily fasts (roza), special evening prayers (Taraweeh), and charitable giving through zakat and sadaqah, reinforcing values of empathy and social responsibility.

The messages from the Congress leaders come as communities across the country prepare for prayers and outreach initiatives, reflecting the broader themes of peace, mutual respect and harmony that define the holy month.
