‘Racist Attack’ on Two Indians in Israel: Suspects Arrested Congress Questions if PM Modi Will Address It During Visit
Israeli authorities condemn assault on two Indians in Ashkelon political leaders in India urge safety assurances for nationals abroad.
Israel, Feb 20 : Israel on Thursday condemned the assault on two Indian workers in Ashkelon, with the Israeli embassy in India confirming that the suspects have been apprehended. The embassy described the attack as “absolutely unacceptable” and said the police have detained those involved, with legal proceedings to follow.
Footage shared by Israeli broadcaster KAN showed multiple attackers surrounding and striking the victims in a public park on Wednesday.
Congress leader Pawan Khera highlighted the incident on X, calling it a “premeditated racist attack” allegedly coordinated via private chats. He urged the External Affairs Ministry, led by S. Jaishankar, to verify the victims’ condition, provide medical support if necessary, and ensure a strong diplomatic response.
The incident has gained attention as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Israel next week. Khera questioned whether the prime minister will raise concerns about racism and attacks on Indian nationals during his visit.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had confirmed on February 15 that PM Modi’s visit will proceed next week, describing the ties between India and Israel as a “tremendous alliance.” This will mark Modi’s second trip to Israel since his historic 2017 visit, when he became the first Indian Prime Minister to visit the country.
