Tamil Nadu BJP Chief Nainar Nagendran Says Voters Will Decide 200-Seat Mandate
Nainar Nagendran Says Voters Will Decide 200-Seat Verdict in Tamil Nadu Polls
Tiruchirappalli, Feb 21 : Nainar Nagendran asserted that the electorate would ultimately determine which party secures a sweeping mandate in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, including the possibility of winning 200 seats.
Addressing reporters in Tiruchirappalli, the state BJP chief expressed confidence in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to attend the alliance’s second campaign meeting in the city.
Nagendran accused the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) of failing to implement most of its poll promises. He alleged that nearly 90 per cent of the commitments made during the last election remain unfulfilled and claimed that law and order in the state has deteriorated, citing incidents of drug trafficking and violent crimes.
Projecting the opposition’s chief ministerial candidate, Nagendran said Edappadi K. Palaniswami would become the next Chief Minister if the alliance comes to power. He further alleged that certain DMK ministers were facing investigations by the Enforcement Directorate.
On former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam, the BJP leader said the party respects him and that it is up to him to decide his political course. He dismissed reports about any recent meeting-related controversy as outdated.
Nagendran also maintained that the Union government has released all entitled funds to Tamil Nadu, including allocations for education, while accusing the state administration of diverting resources meant for welfare schemes.
Earlier, the BJP unveiled a symbolic “report card” criticising the DMK government’s performance, presenting it in the format of an exam score sheet and highlighting what it described as gaps between promises and delivery.
