Andhra CM Naidu Highlights Government’s Push for Social Equality
CM outlines welfare allocations, BC reservation restoration and reform agenda during Budget debate
Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday asserted that the coalition government is prioritising social equity and the uplift of marginalised communities, describing inclusive development as its central objective.
Speaking during the Budget discussion in the Legislative Assembly, Naidu said the government has presented a ₹3.32 lakh crore financial plan despite fiscal constraints, with enhanced allocations for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes and minorities. He assured the House that funds earmarked for these segments would be utilised strictly for their intended welfare programmes.
Focus on Welfare and Structural Reforms
Highlighting the P4 (People, Public, Private Partnership) initiative, the Chief Minister said the model aims to bridge socio-economic gaps by mentoring more than 10 lakh vulnerable families. He added that targeted schemes for occupational groups such as auto drivers, fishermen and handloom workers including provisions like free electricity are being strengthened.
In the social sector, Naidu underscored investments in Anganwadi centres, government schools and residential institutions to improve nutrition, education standards and healthcare access for children.
Outlining the long-term vision of “Swarnandhra 2047,” he said the state aims to raise per capita income significantly and position Andhra Pradesh as a major contributor to India’s developed nation goal.
Reservation and Legislative Measures
The Chief Minister announced that Backward Class reservation in local bodies, reduced to 24 per cent earlier, would be restored to 34 per cent before the upcoming elections. A Cabinet sub-committee has been constituted to draft a BC Protection Act, while proposals related to SC and ST classification have been sent to the Centre.
On GO No. 3 concerning tribal welfare, Naidu said consultations are ongoing to build consensus before a final decision. He also reiterated the administration’s commitment to minority welfare, financial assistance for religious functionaries and women’s empowerment through education and property rights.
Concluding his address, he stated that the government remains committed to strengthening weaker sections across the state.
FMIS Amendment Bill Tabled
Meanwhile, Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu introduced the Andhra Pradesh Farmers’ Management of Irrigation Systems (Amendment) Bill, 2026. The proposed amendment seeks to modify provisions of the 1997 Act that currently bar individuals with more than two children from contesting for Chairman or Vice-Chairman posts in irrigation bodies, signalling a policy shift in eligibility criteria.
