Gurdaspur Police Killings: Punjab Police Arrest One, Injure Another in Encounter

Punjab Police Acts on Gurdaspur Shooting Incident

CHANDIGARH, Feb 25: Punjab Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the killing of two policemen at a Gurdaspur checkpost near the Indo-Pak border and wounded another in an early morning encounter, officials said.

Gurdaspur Senior Superintendent of Police Aditya identified the arrested man as Dilawar Singh, a resident of Alinangal village. Another suspect, Ranjit Singh, was injured in a police encounter near the Purana Shala area. Investigations indicate that three individuals were involved in the killings.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Gurnam Singh and Home Guard Ashok Kumar were discovered dead inside the Adhian checkpost on Sunday, located approximately two kilometres from the international border. The bodies were found by Adhian village sarpanch Kamaljeet Singh after repeated attempts to contact the policemen went unanswered.

Authorities said the ASI was found seated with his hands in his pockets, while the home guard was lying on a cot. The area is reportedly a hotspot for heroin smuggling and drone-based weapons drops from across the border.

Social media posts circulated by a group identifying itself as Tehreek-e-Taliban Hindustan (TTH) have claimed responsibility for the attack.
