Sood Unveils Student Facility Centre at Maharaja Agrasen College

New Delhi, Feb. 27 — Delhi’s Education and Higher Education Minister Ashish Sood on Thursday inaugurated the newly built Student Facility Centre at Maharaja Agrasen College, Vasundhara, while also laying the foundation stone for an Indian Knowledge Tradition Centre and a sports facilities lounge.

During the event, Sood dedicated a multimedia seminar hall and five smart classrooms, and launched an RFID enabled library management system aimed at modernising academic resources. The function was presided over by Professor Balram Pani, Dean of Colleges, University of Delhi.

A delegation of 12 Delhi University college principals, funded by the Delhi government, attended the ceremony and felicitated the minister for addressing long-pending institutional concerns. These colleges had reportedly faced a suspension of government grants for nearly a decade, affecting their operations.

Sood said the government is prioritising infrastructure and technological upgrades to strengthen higher education and ensure a long-term transformation of Delhi’s academic ecosystem. He noted that the new centre would enhance student support services, while the upcoming Indian Knowledge Tradition Centre would promote research in indigenous knowledge systems, culture and heritage.

Reassuring faculty and institutions, the minister said funding constraints would not hinder academic functioning and pledged to uphold teachers’ dignity. He also outlined plans to convert 7,000 classrooms for Classes 9 to 12 into smart classrooms in the next phase of infrastructure expansion.

Highlighting the broader vision, Sood said the government aims to position Delhi as a knowledge capital by 2047, aligning reforms across schools, colleges, technical institutes and research centres.
