Kantara Mimicry Dispute: HC Extends Ranveer Singh’s Interim Relief Until March 9
Karnataka HC Extends Interim Protection for Ranveer Singh in Kantara Mimicry Case
Bengaluru, Mar 3: The Karnataka High Court on Monday extended the interim relief granted to Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh until March 9 in connection with the controversy over mimicking a character from the movie Kantara Chapter-1 and allegedly mocking a deity.
The actor had approached the High Court seeking quashing of the FIR filed against him for portraying Rishab Shetty’s role as the ‘Chavunda’ deity and referring to the deity as a “ghost.” Singh was directed to appear in court in person.
Singh’s counsel, Sajjan Poovayya, informed the court that the actor was in London and unable to travel to Bengaluru due to the ongoing West Asia conflict.
The complainant, a lawyer, claimed that Singh’s remarks hurt religious sentiments, prompting a local court to direct police registration of the case. On February 24, the High Court had initially provided interim relief, directing authorities not to take any coercive action against Singh.
The extension ensures that no legal action will be taken against the actor until the next hearing on March 9, giving him temporary protection amid the ongoing legal proceedings.
