Yash’s ‘Toxic’ Delay May Advance Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’ Release
Yash starrer’s postponement reshapes Kollywood release calendar as makers of Vijay’s film weigh earlier theatrical debut
South India, Mar 05 : The postponement of Yash’s much-anticipated film Toxic has altered the upcoming release calendar in the South Indian film industry, potentially opening the door for Vijay’s Jana Nayagan to arrive in theatres earlier than expected.
The production team behind Toxic recently confirmed that the film will no longer release on March 19, 2026, as initially scheduled. The makers have now set a new target date of June 4, 2026, citing the prevailing situation in several Middle Eastern countries as a key factor behind the decision.
While the delay disappointed many fans who were anticipating a high-profile box office clash with Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar, it may prove advantageous for the team behind Vijay’s upcoming political action drama.
Industry reports suggest that director H. Vinoth’s Jana Nayagan was earlier being considered for a June 18 release. However, producers are reportedly reluctant to position the film just two weeks after the revised launch of Toxic, prompting fresh discussions on advancing the release.
According to a report from the Valai Pechu YouTube channel, the film’s team expects the newly constituted censor board committee to review the project soon. If certification is granted around mid-March as anticipated, the film’s theatrical debut could be moved forward.
The political calendar in Tamil Nadu may also influence the final release plan. Sources indicate that if censor approval arrives on schedule, the makers could aim for a release roughly a week after the state’s legislative assembly elections, which are widely expected to be held in the third week of April 2026. This scenario could see the film hitting theatres in late April or early May.
Despite these possibilities, some media outlets continue to report that the June 18 slot remains under consideration. The date holds particular significance as it falls close to Vijay’s birthday on June 22, a factor that could boost promotional activities and box office performance during the extended weekend.
For now, the producers have not made an official announcement regarding the final release date.
Jana Nayagan features Vijay in the lead role, with Pooja Hegde as the female protagonist. Bobby Deol plays the antagonist, while Premalu actor Mamitha Baiju appears in a key supporting role. The film is expected to be one of the major Kollywood releases of 2026.
