Mumbai, Mar 08 : Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has expressed admiration for the recently released film Subedaar, starring Anil Kapoor in the lead role. After watching the movie on Prime Video, Kashyap shared an extensive review on social media, praising the film’s visual style, storytelling and performances.
Posting on Instagram along with a still from the movie, Kashyap said the film appeared to be crafted for a cinematic experience and would have been even more impactful on the big screen.
The director highlighted the film’s technical approach, noting that it was shot in anamorphic format and designed to be viewed in theatres. He also commended director Suresh Triveni for creating a compelling setting inspired by the rugged regions of Bundelkhand and Chambal, portraying a society shaped by deep rooted patriarchy and social tensions.
Kashyap further applauded the performances of the cast. He praised Anil Kapoor’s intense portrayal of a former army man and lauded actors Faisal Malik, Mona Singh and Aditya Rawal for their strong screen presence. He also singled out Radhikka Madan, saying she delivered a performance that balanced strength and vulnerability.
In addition to the acting, Kashyap appreciated the film’s cinematography, action sequences and restrained storytelling style. He noted that the movie’s minimalistic approach to action stood out at a time when many films rely heavily on exaggerated sequences.
The film follows the story of Arjun, a former soldier navigating a harsh social landscape. Alongside Kapoor and Madan, the cast also includes Saurabh Shukla, Khushbu Sundar and others in significant roles.
Concluding his remarks, Kashyap said the film offered a refreshing take on commercial cinema and described it as the kind of mainstream storytelling he enjoys watching.
