Delhi HC Notice on CBI Plea: Sisodia Says He Will Comply With Legal Process
AAP leader expresses faith in judiciary as High Court seeks responses from Kejriwal, Sisodia and others on CBI’s plea challenging their discharge.
Jammu, Mar 10: Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Manish Sisodia on Tuesday said he has full faith in the judiciary and will comply with all legal procedures after the Delhi High Court issued notices in connection with the excise policy case.
Speaking to reporters in Jammu, Sisodia said he and others named in the case would respect the court’s directives and follow due process of law.
The High Court on Monday sought responses from former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, former deputy chief minister Sisodia and 21 others after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) challenged a trial court order that had discharged them in the matter.
On February 27, the trial court cleared Kejriwal, Sisodia and several other accused, stating that the CBI’s case failed to withstand judicial scrutiny and lacked sufficient grounds to proceed.
However, the CBI later approached the Delhi High Court, arguing that the trial court’s decision was flawed and had undermined the principles of criminal law.
Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma issued notices to all the accused individuals and scheduled the matter for further hearing on March 16, directing them to file their responses to the agency’s petition.
The High Court also indicated that it would consider directing the trial court to postpone proceedings in the related money-laundering investigation being conducted by the Enforcement Directorate until the outcome of the current petition is decided.
Sisodia was in Jammu to visit the family of detained AAP MLA Mehraj Malik at his official residence, where he reiterated the party’s support and solidarity.
Responding to questions about the legal developments, the former deputy chief minister emphasised that he respects the judicial system and will abide by all procedures required in the ongoing case.
