Stalin Reviews West Asia Conflict Impact, Urges PM Modi to Act

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Tuesday chaired a high-level review meeting to assess the possible impact of the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran on the state. The discussion focused on safeguarding Tamil residents in the Gulf region, ensuring the welfare of fishermen, and preventing disruptions in LPG supplies.

Safety of Tamils Abroad a Key Concern

During the meeting, Stalin reviewed potential risks faced by Tamil citizens living in West Asian countries amid rising tensions. He later wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the Union government to take necessary steps to ensure their safety and provide support if the situation worsens.

The chief minister also sought the Centre’s intervention to protect Tamil Nadu fishermen who could be affected or stranded in the region due to the evolving crisis.

LPG Supply and Business Operations Discussed

Another major issue raised during the meeting was the possibility of LPG shortages triggered by the conflict. Stalin requested the Centre to ensure uninterrupted supply of cylinders so that households, commercial establishments and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are not affected.

He also asked the Union government to arrange alternative measures for restaurants and other businesses if commercial LPG supplies face disruption.

Monitoring Situation Closely

Officials said the state government is closely tracking developments related to the conflict and its economic impact. Stalin also emphasised the need for adequate electricity supply to restaurants and other establishments to help them manage operations in case fuel availability becomes limited.

Authorities indicated that further steps will be taken depending on how the international situation unfolds in the coming days.
