India Reviews West Asia Crisis with Russia, EU
EAM S. Jaishankar holds discussions with global counterparts on de-escalation and diplomatic efforts in the region
New Delhi, Mar 11: Amid rising tensions in West Asia, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held separate teleconferences with his Russian, European Union, and French counterparts on Wednesday to review the situation and coordinate diplomatic responses.
Jaishankar spoke with Sergey Lavrov and Kaja Kallas, followed by a discussion with Jean-Noel Barrot. In these exchanges, he shared India’s assessment of the conflict and discussed ongoing diplomatic efforts to stabilize the region.
On X, Jaishankar wrote: “A good telecon with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov of Russia. Shared our assessments on the West Asia conflict and related diplomatic efforts. Also took stock of our bilateral cooperation agenda.”
According to a Russian readout, both ministers emphasized the importance of restoring normalcy in Iran at the earliest. They also highlighted the role of multilateral platforms such as SCO and BRICS in supporting de-escalation efforts and promoting a balanced and sustainable settlement that considers the legitimate interests of all parties.
These discussions underline India’s proactive engagement with global partners to monitor the unfolding crisis and support diplomatic initiatives aimed at stability in West Asia.
