Former Army commander takes oath at Lok Bhavan ceremony in Patna, replacing Arif Mohammed Khan.

Patna: Former Indian Army officer Syed Ata Hasnain was sworn in as the new governor of Bihar on Saturday during a ceremony held at Lok Bhavan in Patna.

The oath of office and secrecy was administered by Sangam Kumar Sahoo, Chief Justice of the Patna High Court. Hasnain takes over the gubernatorial position from Arif Mohammed Khan.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar, along with members of the state cabinet and senior government officials.

Before assuming the new role, Hasnain served in several senior positions in the Indian Army. His final assignment in uniform was as Military Secretary, a key post responsible for managing senior-level personnel matters within the force.

Earlier in his military career, he commanded the Army’s 15 Corps in Jammu and Kashmir, a strategic formation responsible for security operations in the Kashmir Valley.

Following his retirement from the Army, Hasnain continued to engage in academic and policy roles. In 2018, he was appointed chancellor of the Central University of Kashmir. Two years later, he joined the National Disaster Management Authority as a member, contributing to disaster management and policy initiatives at the national level.
