Suryakumar Yadav Marks Five Years in International Cricket with Emotional Post That Goes Viral

India’s T20I captain reflects on his journey after sharing a heartfelt post marking the milestone.

New Delhi: India’s T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav on Saturday completed five years in international cricket, marking the occasion with an emotional message and a video tribute to his journey in the national team jersey.

Sharing the clip on X (formerly Twitter), the stylish right-hand batter said representing India national cricket team continues to be an indescribable feeling. In his message, he recalled how his dream of playing for the country became a reality in 2021 and expressed hope of creating many more memories with the team in the years ahead.

Yadav made his international debut on March 14, 2021, in a T20I against England national cricket team at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad at the age of 30 years and 181 days. Though he did not get the chance to bat in that match, he produced a memorable moment in the following game of the series by hitting his first international delivery, bowled by Jofra Archer, for a six.

Over the past five years, the Mumbai-born batter has established himself as one of the most dynamic players in the shortest format. In 113 T20 Internationals, Yadav has scored 3,272 runs, including four centuries and 25 half-centuries. Among Indian batters, only Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have scored more runs in T20Is.

He later expanded his international career by making his ODI debut against Sri Lanka national cricket team in Colombo in July 2021 and his Test debut against Australia national cricket team in Nagpur in 2023, becoming the first Indian cricketer to debut in all three formats after turning 30.

Yadav also played a key role in India’s triumph at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, where he led the side to a historic title victory. During the tournament, he contributed 242 runs and produced a crucial boundary catch to dismiss David Miller in the final against South Africa national cricket team, helping secure the championship.

Despite limited leadership experience at franchise level, Yadav was entrusted with the captaincy of India’s T20I side. Under his leadership, the team has played 52 matches, winning 42 and losing eight, while two games ended without a result — giving him an impressive win percentage of 80.76 per cent.
