Kharge Flags LPG Shortage In Rajya Sabha, Government Accuses Opposition Of Creating Chaos
Kharge Slams Govt, Nadda Accuses Opposition Of Stirring Chaos
New Delhi, Mar 16: Congress President and Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge raised the issue of the ongoing LPG shortage in India, highlighting its severe impact on households, restaurants, hostels, and commercial users. He criticised the government for failing to take preventive measures amid the West Asia conflict and accused it of negligence that has led to black marketing of cylinders, with prices reportedly reaching up to ₹5,000 per cylinder.
Speaking during Zero Hour, Kharge stressed that the government was aware of potential disruptions following its advisory to Indian citizens abroad but did not act proactively. “The crisis reflects poor management and flawed foreign policy. Immediate steps are needed to ensure LPG availability at reasonable prices for the public and small businesses,” he said, questioning statements from the Union Petroleum Minister that there was no shortage.
In response, Union Minister and Leader of the House J P Nadda accused the Opposition of politicising the crisis. “Even during a national challenge, some parties are instigating the public instead of supporting the government. Their actions risk creating anarchy in the country,” Nadda said, defending the government’s handling of the LPG supply situation.
The exchange highlights growing tension in Parliament over energy shortages and the government’s preparedness amid ongoing geopolitical instability affecting fuel supply.
