New Delhi, Mar 17, 2026: Amit Sharma, IAS, Director Census Operations (DCO) & Director Citizen Registration (DCR), Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs for the UTs of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, mentioned Census 2027 as the basis of climate resilience strategies in the valedictory session of three-day Resilience & Sustainability Summit—Vision 2047 organized at IIT Roorkee, Greater Noida Campus, NCR New Delhi, which is an event of national importance and seeing the presence of a galaxy of select personalities from amongst the policy makers, vice chancellors of various universities, researchers, and government ministries and departments like NDMA and DST, and even global experts.
DCO/DCR Government of India, MHA for J&K and Ladakh Amit Sharma was invited as a special guest to deliver his keynote address in the Valedictory Session of RESSUMIT 2026, especially due to his rich experience and exposure to traveling and working across different climatic conditions in Bharat like Ladakh, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, and peninsular India.
Amit shared his concerns during his keynote address in RESSUMMIT 2026 about fast-changing climatic conditions in almost all regions of the nation, right from up north to the northeast and the southern belts of Bharat, primarily owing to global warming and lifestyle changes of people over the past couple of decades. At the same time, he termed the upcoming Census 2027 to act as a catalyst in getting the latest demographic data with precision along with the minutest details like internet connection, mobile phones, televisions, etc. in the households, which can help in assessing the need for product recycling and residue reuse activities, which are much needed for ensuring climatic resilience and sustainability in the current tough, fast-changing weather scenarios.
During his address, Amit Sharma also happened to share several successful initiatives taken during his role as Secretary of Transport, Science and Technology, Disaster Management, Rural Development, and IT in Ladakh in the recent past for developing climatic resilience and making Ladakh a Net Zero Emission UT which include the operationalization of five hydrogen fuel cell buses for public transport, introducing electric vehicles for freight movement of goods & services, organizing earthquake mock exercises, stationing a company of NDRF in Ladakh, studies conducted to counter GLOF-related challenges, hot springs management workshops, the natural gas exploration project in Puga, and solar energy harnessing projects, being the primary ones, amongst others.
DCO/DCR J&K and Ladakh Amit Sharma also appreciated the organization of this important RESSUMIT 2026 in this top national educational institute of IIT Roorkee, primarily on five tracks namely Climate Knowledge, Regional Vulnerabilities, Health and Well-Being, Industry and Safety & Policy Dialogue, wherein subject specialists are expressing their views on related subjects.
