Punjab CM Honors Martyrs on Shaheed Diwas, Pays Solemn Tribute
Bhagwant Mann remembers Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev; lays foundation for heritage complex at Hussainwala
Hussainwala: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday paid homage to iconic freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev on the occasion of their martyrdom day, reaffirming his government’s commitment to building a progressive and vibrant Punjab inspired by their ideals.
During his visit to the historic Hussainwala memorial, Mann highlighted the enduring legacy of the revolutionaries and called for greater recognition of their sacrifices. He also raised concerns over the lack of the highest civilian honour for these national heroes, urging that their contributions be duly acknowledged.
The Chief Minister said the courage and vision of these young leaders continue to inspire generations, adding that the nation’s trajectory could have been significantly different had such leadership guided India in its early years.
Marking the occasion, Mann laid the foundation stone for the Hussainwala Heritage Complex, a project worth ₹24.99 crore aimed at promoting tourism and preserving the region’s historical significance. The initiative is expected to serve as a cultural landmark and help educate the youth about India’s freedom struggle.
Addressing a gathering, he criticised political leaders who, he said, prioritised personal recognition over honouring martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country. He emphasised that the contributions of these revolutionaries must remain central to the nation’s collective memory.
Mann also recalled efforts to honour Bhagat Singh through public institutions, stating that due recognition of such figures is essential to uphold their legacy and inspire future generations.
