Congress Alleges PM Modi Avoids Taking Stand on Israel’s West Bank Actions
Opposition alleges government avoiding firm stance amid escalating tensions in West Asia
New Delhi, Mar 28: The Congress on Saturday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of failing to take a clear stand on Israel’s actions in the West Bank, claiming the ongoing conflict in West Asia is being used to advance long-term territorial goals.
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said that developments in the past few weeks indicate a broader strategy by Israel to expand its control in the region. He pointed out that while global attention remains focused on tensions involving Iran and key maritime routes, the situation in Gaza, southern Lebanon, and the West Bank has continued to escalate.
According to the Congress leader, recent administrative and military steps in the West Bank could significantly impact Palestinian residents and reduce the prospects of a two-state solution. He alleged that these moves reflect a larger vision aimed at consolidating territorial control.
Ramesh also criticised the Prime Minister for not publicly addressing these developments, especially in light of his recent visit to Israel and his diplomatic engagement with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The Congress has maintained that India should take a more balanced and vocal position on issues concerning Palestinian rights.
The party reiterated its stance that India has historically supported the Palestinian cause and urged the government to uphold that legacy through clear and consistent diplomatic messaging.
