PM Urges End of TMC Rule, Vows to Build a ‘Viksit Bengal’
PM alleges governance failure, promises industrial revival, accountability, and crackdown on corruption if BJP comes to power
India, April 10 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday outlined six assurances for West Bengal ahead of the Assembly elections, asserting that a BJP-led government would end what he described as the “cruel governance” of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and pave the way for a “Viksit Bengal”.
Addressing public rallies in Haldia in Purba Medinipur and later in Birbhum, the Prime Minister accused the TMC government of halting the state’s development and fostering an atmosphere of fear. He said West Bengal needed a governance shift to restore trust and attract investment.
“While the nation is moving forward, Bengal is being pushed backward under the TMC’s misrule. To build a developed Bengal, it is necessary to end this regime,” Modi said, adding that industrial growth could only return when an environment of confidence is restored.
Focusing on the state’s economic challenges, Modi highlighted issues such as industrial decline and unemployment, claiming that several closed factories had hurt youth opportunities. He also pointed to fisheries, saying Bengal still depends on imports despite strong domestic demand, and promised self-sufficiency in the sector under BJP rule.
During his speech, the Prime Minister listed what he termed “six guarantees” for the state, which included administrative accountability, reopening corruption and crime cases, and strict action against those accused of wrongdoing. He also vowed that individuals involved in corruption would face legal consequences regardless of their position.
Modi further said that government welfare schemes would be extended to all eligible legal refugees, while asserting that illegal infiltrators would not be allowed to stay. He also accused the TMC of misleading Bengal’s youth by weakening the private sector and alleged irregularities in government recruitment.
The Prime Minister also referred to incidents of violence, including the Bogtui killings in Birbhum in 2022, to criticise the state government’s law and order situation, claiming that “jungle raj” had taken root under the TMC administration.
Reiterating his poll pitch, Modi said the BJP’s focus would be on restoring trust, reviving industry, and ensuring transparent governance if voted to power in West Bengal.
