Justice Yashwant Varma Resigns Amid Impeachment Proceedings at Allahabad High Court
Resignation follows controversy over discovery of burnt currency at official residence
NEW DELHI, Apr 10: Justice Yashwant Varma has resigned from his position at the Allahabad High Court while facing impeachment proceedings linked to a major controversy. According to sources, his resignation was submitted to Droupadi Murmu on April 9.
In his letter to the President, Justice Varma expressed deep distress over the situation, stating that he was stepping down with immediate effect. He chose not to elaborate on the reasons behind his decision but described his tenure as an honour.
The development comes after allegations surfaced when partially burnt bundles of currency notes were reportedly recovered from his official residence in New Delhi on March 14 last year. The incident triggered serious scrutiny and ultimately led to impeachment proceedings being initiated against him.
Following the controversy, Justice Varma had earlier been transferred from the Delhi High Court back to the Allahabad High Court.
