US-India Air Chiefs Advance Defence Partnership in Indo-Pacific Region
High-level talks focus on interoperability, advanced training, and strengthening regional deterrence
Washington: The strategic defence partnership between the United States and India received a fresh push as top air force leaders from both nations held extensive discussions aimed at enhancing operational coordination and regional security in the Indo-Pacific.
During an official visit on April 8, Amar Preet Singh, Chief of the Indian Air Force, was hosted by Kenneth Wilsbach at Joint Base Anacostia Bolling, where he was accorded a ceremonial welcome.
The visit included key meetings at the Pentagon with senior US leadership, including Troy Meink. Discussions underscored the growing importance of bilateral defence ties, particularly in maintaining stability and ensuring a secure Indo-Pacific region.
US officials highlighted India’s increasing role in multinational military exercises and stressed that deeper engagement among partner nations would be vital for strengthening deterrence capabilities. Both sides explored avenues to expand cooperation in modernisation initiatives and future training programmes.
A major focus of the talks was India’s acquisition of advanced MQ-9B Sky Guardian drones, with the US reaffirming its support in facilitating seamless integration and operational readiness of the platform within Indian forces.
The dialogue also extended to broader operational collaboration, covering areas such as joint training frameworks, air mobility tactics, and participation in partnership programmes involving the Air National Guard.
Singh emphasised that such engagements play a crucial role in building stronger coordination between the two air forces and enhancing joint operational capabilities.
As part of his visit, the Indian Air Chief also toured key US military installations, including Peterson Space Force Base in Colorado, where he was briefed on aerospace defence systems under the North American Aerospace Defense Command. He later visited Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, gaining insights into advanced warfare training and flying in an F-15EX fighter jet.
The visit reflects a continued commitment by both nations to deepen defence collaboration and reinforce stability across the Indo-Pacific region.
