Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha announces 57-day pilgrimage; age limits and dual routes confirmed

JAMMU, Apr 12: The annual pilgrimage to the sacred Amarnath Cave in south Kashmir will commence on July 3 and conclude on August 28, marking a 57 day  journey this year.

The announcement was made by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha following a meeting of the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board held at Lok Bhavan in Jammu. He stated that the duration of the pilgrimage has been slightly extended compared to previous years.

Registrations for the yatra will be mandatory and will open from April 15. Devotees aged between 13 and 70 years will be eligible to undertake the pilgrimage. Both offline and online registration facilities will be available, with advance bookings being conducted through 556 designated bank branches across the country as well as through the official portal of the shrine board.

Major banks including State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, and Yes Bank will facilitate the registration process at their branches.

The first ritual of the season will be observed on June 19, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Jyeshtha Purnima.

Pilgrims will undertake the journey via two established routes: the traditional 48-kilometre Nunwan-Pahalgam track in Anantnag district and the shorter yet steeper 14-kilometre Baltal route in Ganderbal district.
