Trump Praises “Excellent Conversation” With PM Modi
Leaders discuss West Asia tensions, energy security, and global stability during 40-minute phone conversation
WASHINGTON, Apr 17: Donald Trump on Friday described his recent interaction with Narendra Modi as a “very good conversation,” underlining the continued personal rapport and diplomatic engagement between the two leaders amid evolving global challenges.
Speaking to reporters before departing for Las Vegas, Trump referred to a phone call held earlier in the week, noting that his discussion with the Indian Prime Minister was both cordial and meaningful. He characterized Modi as a “friend” and praised his leadership, emphasizing the positive tone of their exchange.
The Trump–Modi conversation took place on Tuesday and lasted approximately 40 minutes. During the call, both leaders reviewed key aspects of bilateral relations while also exchanging views on pressing international developments, particularly the ongoing tensions in West Asia.
A significant part of their discussion focused on the regional situation following the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. The crisis, which began earlier this year, has had far reaching geopolitical and economic consequences, especially in global energy markets.
One of the central concerns highlighted during the dialogue was the security of the Strait of Hormuz a critical maritime route through which a substantial portion of the world’s oil supply passes. Disruptions in this narrow corridor have already led to volatility in fuel prices, impacting economies worldwide.
Both Trump and Modi stressed the importance of ensuring that this vital sea lane remains open, stable, and secure. Their shared position reflects broader international concerns about safeguarding energy supply chains and maintaining uninterrupted global trade flows.
The conversation also followed recent developments in US-Iran relations, including a temporary ceasefire announced earlier this month. Diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran have focused on de-escalation, with particular attention to Iran’s nuclear program and uranium enrichment activities.
Despite the fragile truce, uncertainties persist in the region, prompting continued dialogue among global leaders. The Trump–Modi exchange is seen as part of these wider diplomatic efforts aimed at stabilizing the situation and preventing further escalation.
According to Sergei Gor, the call concluded on a notably warm note, with Trump expressing strong appreciation for Modi. The ambassador indicated that the conversation reflected not only strategic alignment but also a personal connection between the two leaders.
This marks the second interaction between Trump and Modi since the outbreak of the West Asia conflict earlier this year, underscoring the frequency and importance of high level communication between Washington and New Delhi during times of global uncertainty.
The latest exchange reinforces the growing significance of India-US ties, particularly in addressing shared concerns related to security, economic stability, and geopolitical cooperation.
