Zambia Cancels Global Rights and Technology Conference

Human Rights Groups Criticise Sudden Suspension

Zambia, May 03 : The Zambian government unexpectedly cancelled the internationally recognised RightsCon summit only days before the event was scheduled to begin in Lusaka.

The conference was expected to bring together thousands of activists, digital policy experts, technology companies, journalists, and human rights organisations from around the world.

Civil liberty groups criticised the cancellation, calling it a major setback for democratic engagement and digital freedom discussions in Africa. Organisers expressed disappointment after years of planning and investment.

The summit was set to discuss internet governance, artificial intelligence regulation, online censorship, and digital surveillance concerns.
