Angelina Jolie Wins Court Victory in Legal Battle With Brad Pitt Over Private Emails
Court Protects Confidential Emails in Ongoing Legal Battle
India, May 06 : Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie has secured a significant legal win in her prolonged dispute with former husband Brad Pitt over the ownership and sale of the French winery Chateau Miraval.
The Los Angeles County Superior Court ruled on Monday that Jolie will not be required to hand over a set of private emails connected to the controversial sale of her stake in the estate. The 22 emails requested by Pitt’s legal team were deemed legally protected under attorney-client privilege and legal strategy protections.
The decision marks another major development in the years-long courtroom battle between the former couple, whose separation has continued to generate intense public and legal scrutiny.
Appeals Court Reverses Earlier Order
The latest ruling follows a previous court decision from December 2025 that had ordered Jolie to submit the emails for review. However, higher court findings later concluded that the earlier ruling had been flawed and directed the matter back to the lower court for reconsideration.
Although some of the emails were reportedly not direct exchanges between lawyer and client, the court determined they contained sensitive legal discussions and strategic planning. Because of this, the communications were classified as privileged material and protected from disclosure.
Legal experts believe the ruling could strengthen Jolie’s position as the wider Chateau Miraval dispute moves toward trial.
Sanctions Request Against Pitt’s Team Rejected
Alongside her effort to block the release of the emails, Jolie also requested nearly USD 34,000 in sanctions against Pitt’s attorneys. She argued that the legal attempt to force disclosure of the documents was improper.
The court, however, declined to impose any financial penalties on Pitt’s legal representatives, delivering a partial setback for the actress despite her broader courtroom success.
Pitt’s Camp Responds to the Decision
A source close to Pitt reacted sharply to the ruling in comments provided to TMZ, suggesting that the outcome should not be viewed as a complete victory for Jolie.
According to the source, the actress “shouldn’t be celebrating a potential temporary decision” that keeps information about her alleged intentions from being examined in court.
The response indicates that Pitt’s side plans to continue aggressively contesting the case as both parties prepare for trial proceedings.
Chateau Miraval at the Center of Dispute
The legal battle centers on Chateau Miraval, the sprawling French estate and winery once jointly owned by Jolie and Pitt. The property became internationally famous after the couple married there in 2014.
Tensions escalated in 2022 when Pitt filed a lawsuit accusing Jolie of selling her ownership stake in the winery without his approval. He claimed the sale disrupted the business and violated agreements between the former spouses.
Jolie has consistently denied wrongdoing, maintaining that she was legally entitled to sell her share after negotiations between the two sides collapsed.
Trial Date Could Face Further Delay
The dispute is far from over, with the trial currently scheduled for February 1, 2027. However, Jolie’s legal team has reportedly requested that the proceedings be pushed back until November 2027.
Just last month, Pitt filed documents opposing any postponement, arguing that the ongoing litigation has prevented him from enjoying the property peacefully.
With both sides continuing to challenge each other in court, the Chateau Miraval dispute remains one of Hollywood’s most closely watched celebrity legal battles.
