Amit Shah Praises BJP’s Expansion in Southern and Eastern India

Union Home Minister credits ideological growth and grassroots organization for BJP’s electoral gains.

New Delhi, May 11 : Union Home Minister Amit Shah on May 10 said the BJP’s recent electoral gains reflected the party’s ideological expansion across India, especially in states once considered difficult terrain for the saffron party.

Speaking during a major political event in Karnataka, Shah described the BJP’s rise in West Bengal and southern India as evidence of growing public support for the party’s governance model and nationalist agenda.

The event was organized to honor veteran Karnataka leader B. S. Yediyurappa for completing 50 years in public life. Shah praised Yediyurappa for transforming Karnataka into the BJP’s strongest southern bastion and laying the foundation for the party’s regional growth.

Shah argued that the BJP’s expansion was driven by grassroots organizational work rather than short-term alliances. He claimed the party had successfully connected with voters through welfare delivery, nationalism, and development-focused governance.

The Home Minister also highlighted the symbolic importance of the BJP’s recent electoral success in West Bengal, saying the saffron flag was now rising in regions historically dominated by regional parties and Left politics.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to constructing a memorial dedicated to Madakari Nayaka and Onake Obavva, important historical figures associated with resistance and regional pride in Karnataka.

Political observers believe Shah’s remarks were aimed at energizing BJP cadres ahead of future state elections. The party has been attempting to strengthen its presence in states like Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Kerala while maintaining dominance in Karnataka.

The speeches also emphasized the BJP’s narrative that it has evolved into the country’s most geographically diverse political party. Shah argued that ideological commitment and organizational discipline had helped the BJP expand far beyond its traditional northern strongholds.

Opposition leaders, however, accused the BJP of polarizing politics and using aggressive nationalism to weaken regional parties. Critics also argued that the party’s electoral success does not automatically translate into solutions for unemployment and inflation.

Despite criticism, the BJP leadership appears confident that its current political momentum can be sustained through a combination of welfare policies, ideological messaging, and strong central leadership under Prime Minister Modi.
