NC role in Women’s Education, Empowerment, Sports Participation pivotal: Tanvir Sadiq

Srinagar, March 15: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Chief Spokesperson and MLA Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq, said the party has consistently played a decisive role in advancing women’s education and empowerment in Jammu and Kashmir, reaffirming its commitment to expanding opportunities for girls in academics, sports, and leadership.

He was addressing the Inter-School Girls Cricket Tournament 2026 held at Presentation Convent Higher Secondary School, where he said sports play a vital role in shaping the physical, mental, and moral development of young girls. “Games instil discipline, teamwork, tolerance, leadership, and self-confidence, qualities essential for success in life,” he said, adding that the present government led by Omar Abdullah is taking focused steps to strengthen sports infrastructure and promotion across the region. 

Speaking at the concluding ceremony, where he attended as chief guest, Sadiq encouraged the participating students to pursue sports with dedication and confidence, saying such events help channel youth energy in a positive direction while nurturing talent and character.

The final match of the tournament was played between St. Joseph’s School Baramulla and Kothi Bagh Higher Secondary School, with Kothi Bagh emerging victorious.

Sadiq said the Omar led government has prioritised the upgradation of playgrounds across districts, provision of modern sports facilities, and encouragement of school-level competitions to create better opportunities for young athletes. He said these initiatives are helping channel youth towards constructive engagement while building a strong sporting culture in Jammu and Kashmir.

He appreciated the management of Presentation Convent Higher Secondary School for successfully organizing the tournament, saying the institution has a long-standing legacy of academic excellence and has played a key role in shaping confident and capable women who have contributed meaningfully across sectors.

He further said Kashmiri girls are excelling in every field and urged them to continue pursuing their goals with determination and confidence. Reiterating the party’s stand, Sadiq said the National Conference has historically contributed significantly to women’s education, social and economic empowerment, and their participation in public life. He said the party has consistently worked to strengthen educational institutions and create an enabling environment for women’s progress in all spheres of society.
