“Demolition Drive Paused in Jammu as Police Retrieve National Flag From Site”
Police halt operation in Miran Sahib area to retrieve Tricolour from property linked to alleged drug peddler
JAMMU, May 23: Police briefly suspended an ongoing demolition operation on the outskirts of Jammu city to ensure two tabletop national flags were removed respectfully from a building before the structure was pulled down, officials said on Saturday.
The incident took place in the Miran Sahib area during a demolition drive targeting properties allegedly linked to a suspected drug peddler identified as Bablu.
According to officials, members of the demolition team noticed the presence of two Tricolours inside one of the rooms while the operation was underway. The drive was immediately paused and a police officer was directed to enter the building and safely retrieve the national flags before demolition resumed.
“The officials ensured that the national flags were taken out with full respect before continuing the operation,” an officer associated with the drive said.
The demolition exercise was reportedly led by Sub-Inspector Rinku Sharma as part of an anti-drug enforcement action in the area.
A video purportedly showing a policeman carrying the tabletop flags out of the partially damaged building later surfaced on social media and attracted attention online.
Officials said the temporary halt reflected adherence to protocol and respect for the national symbol during enforcement operations. The demolition was resumed shortly after the flags were removed from the premises.
